What is an Enrolled Agent?
The IRS website defines an enrolled agent as a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.

Melanie Johnson
Melanie Johnson has been in the tax business since receiving her B.S. degree in Accounting from San Diego State University in 1979. She began her tax career as an Office, and later Field, Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. After a very educational four years, she left the I.R.S., moved to the other side of the desk, and began her tax preparation business. It has been, and continues to be, a very rewarding career.

Karen Wasung
Karen Wasung has been preparing individual tax returns since 1992, she passed the Enrolled Agent exam in 1996. Her B.S. degree is in Accounting from San Diego State University. Karen has worked for a major tax software company for many years as a tax expert. She joined Melanie’s office in 2004 and has enjoyed working with her and helping clients with their annual tax preparation.

Karen Johnson
Karen Johnson is the newest addition to the firm. She received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from San Diego State University and a M.S. in Cybersecurity from California State University San Marcos. After working in the engineering field, she decided to make a career switch and enter the family business. She has been preparing taxes since 2016 and passed the Enrolled Agent exam in 2018.

Rosie and Ralph
Rosie and Ralph are the Johnson Tax & Financial Services office mascots. They are 10 year old Boston Terriers and love to spend the day playing and sleeping in the sun.
Head of Security
Tucker
Tucker is Johnson Tax & Financial's newest addition. He is a two-year old French Bulldog who alerts the office to visitors and joins Rosie & Ralphie in their welcoming duties.
